My Review for The Hunger Games by Suzzan Collins

Book & Author: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Publisher: Scholastic, Inc.
Pages: 374
Rating: <3<3<3<3< (4 1/2 out of 5 hearts)

Spoilers: I say that Katniss and Peeta like each other. I’m sorry but it’s not really much of a surprise

ok to be honest i heard about this when it first came out. it was on Stephenie Meyer's website and i looked at it but i just brushed it off (just like i did twilight- i should have learned) but i somehow ending up looking it up and I heard nothing but good reviews  this about this book. but when i saw the shirts at Hot Topic and that the book was on my school reading list, i was convinced it was a sign! As soon as i could i bought it (and used my weekly allowance the same day).
My Summery:
Basically this Book is set in post-apocalyptic North American and now the continent is called Panem, there are 12 (it used to be 13) districts (basically big fenced in states) and one capital city in the middle of it. Think of the capitol city as “the man” or “the government” but worse. The back story is the capitol was and is so bad that all 13 districts rebelled and….that didn't turn out to well. District 13 was completely demolished and now to ‘make up for their rebellion’ every year they host The Hunger Games. They take 2 kids, a boy and a girl ages 12-18, chosen at random from every district and make all 24 of them fight to the death in an arena, while the whole continent is mandated to watch, until there is one winner. Enter the protagonist: a girl named Katniss Everdeen. Her 12 year old sister Prim was chosen and she volunteers to take her sisters place in the games. The boy chosen for the games wasn’t Gale Hawthorne her male best friend who she doesn’t really know her feelings for yet, but Peeta Mellark, the boy that gave her bread to feed her and her starving family when she was 11. She’s never talked to him but he’s still the boy that saved her life. As she goes through the games Katniss experiences hurt, excitement, plenty near death experiences, fear, friendship, loss, loneliness, triumph, and love as she also falls into the ploy of her and Peeta being star-crossed lovers to get sponsors. But by the end of the games she can’t tell what was for the camera and what was real. And what about her ‘best friend’ Gale?
Who I fell in love with:
I fell in love with 2 different people 2 different ways:
•    First was Peeta: i was more in love with him then Katniss was he was just my type (strong, resourceful, cute, funny, sensitive) {he kind of reminded me of Ian from The Host by Stephenie Meyer} he was and is so in love with Katniss that I admired her, I wanted her to be a little smarter about what his motives behind simple things where like why he would say or do things. Her first thought would almost always  be ‘he’s just acting or he’s going to double cross me’ and finally she’ll think ‘maybe he really likes me or maybe he really is nice and maybe he’s serious’ for a half a millisecond and then that thought will fly out the window.
•    Second was Rue i know she was kind of a minor character but i loved her like she was my little sister. I can’t say too much without going into a spoiler but she was my favorite person other than the characters of course. But I feel horrible and sad because I thought Rue was going to be a complete back stabber; I thought she was going to like kill Katniss in her sleep or something but when she ended up being good and cool I felt really bad for thinking that.
My Thoughts:
The ending was perfect for a first book. It leaves you wanting more and I’m lucky I don't have to wait seeing as I have Catching Fire, book #2, in my book shelf now, and in a few days I’ll have the third, Mockingjay, too.
I'm team Peeta but there wasn't a lot of Gale in book 1 so that's like saying your team Edward after only reading the first book of Twilight. There were (a lot of) times where i just wanted to yell at Katniss for being so oblivious to Peeta and I still don't think she gets it completely but at the end I think she said some of her reasons why she wouldn’t get if Peeta really loved her so I kind of understand why she just doesn’t get it that Peeta likes her. I think Gale likes her too because what’s a love triangle without another person. What does Gale think about her and Peeta? I don't think he liked seeing Peeta and Katniss acting all in love and such. But we’ll find out next book, I think it’s going to be mostly about who Katniss will chose and what the capitol is going to do about her. I think I know what they do but I’ll pretend I don't.

so that was my review tell me what you think, next I'll be doing My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent so look out for that

                                            Love Leah,
                                                     Peace Love and Books
